Kantha Collection Supporting The National Coalition for the Homeless

January 24, 2020

For as long as I can remember, I dreamed of traveling. It didn’t matter where to or for what reason, I just wanted to experience the world. And as I grew older, my adventurous heart grew stronger and I sought out the very uncommon, in places, in people and in things. This venturous spirit of mine had me living 12 amazing years on the Island of Madagascar, and 8 wondrous years in Mauritius. It was on the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius, that I was gifted my first Kantha throw. The moment I opened it- I was hooked. The print, the colors, the patterns -I was in awe! My gifter explained how each Kantha throw is handmade, one of a kind, and completely sustainable. She explained that Kantha is a tradition, passed down through the generations. She went on to tell me that taking clothes and giving them new purpose was considered an act of spiritual wholeness, and that the women who made them were creating a support system for themselves and their families through their own entrepreneurship. I was moved, a passion was lit and I knew I had to get involved!

Over 57 thousand loyal followers and tens of thousands of Kantha throws later, my obsession has not wavered! This past decade we’ve played an important role in helping to make a difference in the lives of the female artisans in India seeking a better life for themselves and their families and have expanded greatly on our Kantha product range to include apparel, jewelry, furniture and more. But while we continue to grow our collection, 2020, is the year that sparks a new decade of hope as we set our sights to make a difference here at home too. Kantha is all about renewal, new opportunities and second chances. And with that spirit in mind, we are now donating 5% of the proceeds of all Kantha Collection sales to the National Coalition for the Homeless. In Keeping with the beautiful tradition of Kantha, up-cycling lives, one stitch at a time.
